What is a kitchen plinth?

What is the purpose of kitchen plinths?
Kitchen plinths provide two purposes. First of all it stops the anything being knocked underneath the cabinets.
Secondly it is used to provide an aesthetically pleasing finish to the design of the kitchen. Kitchen plinths are typically long, about 3 metres long. They can be joined together to make a longer plinth, where there is a longer run of base units.
How do you end a kitchen plinths?
There used to be two ways of ending kitchen plinth, either adjoining to an end panel, as in the picture above, or by cutting a 45 degree cut into it and trailing the plinth down the side of the base cabinet.
The second method has fallen out of design favour in recent year, now plinths are nearly always butted to an end panel, as in the picture above.
Do plinths come with cabinets?
No, you need to buy the plinths separately from any base cabinets. You will need enough plinth to cover all the base cabinets used in the kitchen.
What colour are plinths?
You normally match the plinth colour to the rest of the kitchen cabinet doors. You would also normally match the door style, gloss or matt.
